Unit 1: The practice of law

For my first blog I've chosen a video on youtube which we used during class for business writing 1.I've chosen this video from the Judge Judy show because it really shows the difference between the judge, the claimant, the defendant, the clerk and the advocats. It also shows the ruling in court and a lot of the vocabulary from unit 1 is used in the video.

Hereby given a summary of this case using the voc from unit 1

The case discussed is this episode from Judge Judy is called Ipod of disaster.

The case Drayton versus Ford is a difficult one in which the claimant,16 years old Taylor Turnage claims his former friend,14 years old Tracey Ford stole his IPod .Taylor’s mother, Connie Drayton is accusing Tracey of purposely damaging her property.
Tracey Ford in her way, claims Taylor gave her the IPod for two dollars and therefore she isn’t responsible in any way for the iPod; which later got stolen from Tracey. Tracey’s mother, Mary Ford, claims Taylor is responsible because he gave the IPod to her for the second time.
Judge Judy Sheindlin is ruling the case.

The first problem in this case is that the iPod is missing but nobody feels responsible for it.
The plaintiff claims Tracey is responsible for the iPod and has to pay the bill of 500 dollars because she stole the iPod out of Taylor’s house while he was on the phone. The defendant claims Taylor is responsible for his own iPod because he gave the iPod to Tracey in exchange of two dollars and after Mary Ford already talked to Connie Drayton about the fact that Taylor does not has the right to give the IPod to Tracey because they don’t have the money to replace it, in case something would happen.

The second problem is that the plaintiff claims that after she reported Tracey to the police, and she was arrested, she came to their house and fluted their apartment with water.Mr Kennedy(Connie Drayton’s husband) hereby heart Tracey talking and laughing on the stairs. The defendant claims this wasn’t her daughter because she was at school, but here for they have no evidence. In the end Judge Judy Sheindlin claims Tracey was responsible for the iPod, whether she stole it, or whether Taylor gave it to her voluntary.Herefor she has to pay 500 dollars for the iPod.
